Meet Maeve
A Dedicated Perspective on Person-Centred Care at Glen Haven
My name is Maeve Gormley. I began my career with Ability West residential services in 2016 as Person In Charge. There is great team working within Ability West even when things get hectic and pressurised all teams and supports pull together where needed with an end-game of ensuring the best outcomes and inclusivity for all of the people we support!
It is so important to me that the residents are happy it’s what motivates me to create a person-centred, individualised environment for the residents to grow and lead a fulfilled life. Having the opportunity to support individuals to be the best that they can be is the best job. My role is to support both our residents and staff team. The most important thing for me is that the residents I support live happy fulfilled lives, that they feel safe and supported to express their wishes for themselves as individuals and that staff have a supported safe environment where they are happy in their work.
We work collaboratively with the families, friends and volunteers of the residents to deliver a rights-based approach to services to meet personal goals and aspirations. I could not deliver the service that we do without the positive collective approach. It is so important to me that the residents in my service are happy - it’s what motivates our whole team, the team here go above and beyond in their roles creating a homely space, residents light up and smile when staff come on shift. it is a pleasure to be part of the team!
I enjoy the variety of my work the most. Responding in innovative ways to the demands of the job and having the support of a wonderfully dedicated team is what makes it all worthwhile. It’s important to have flexibility in the demands of the role. Being respectful and flexible with the staff team that support me and most importantly being organised is key to the everyday tasks. Being open minded and remembering that the fundamental objective is the delivery of a good service.
