OBJECTIVES OF COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT

The aim of CE is to enhance the employability and mobility of disadvantaged and unemployed persons by providing work experience and training opportunities for them within their communities.  In addition, it helps long-term unemployed people to re-enter the active workforce by breaking their experience of unemployment through a return to work routine.

The CE Scheme is funded by the Department of Social Protection.  The Department’s priority in supporting CE is having access to schemes that can provide jobseekers and other vulnerable groups with good quality work experience and QQI training qualifications &/or Industry Standard Training to support their progression into employment.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility to participant on CE is generally linked to those who are 21 years or over and applicants must also be in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment for 1 year. In some cases the qualifying period can be less than 1 year, it is always advisable to check eligibility with a local Intero Office.

PARTICIPANT DEVELOPMENT

Participant development is the central feature of CE.  This includes development opportunities provided through the project work programme and education and training provided under the training budget.  The supervisor will identify the development and training needs of each participant on the project and the participant progression options.

CE VACANCIES

All CE vacancies are advertised on the jobs Ireland website. Further information can be obtained from Breda Kerins – CE Supervisor 087 6751415, bredak@abilitywest.ie

Time on the CE Scheme – HR Administration Assistant

The HR team ‘met me where I was’ when I started the CE Scheme, I felt like I was part of the team from the first day. They were open to flexibility around me working Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

I learnt through observation, shadowing and ongoing training, the team went above and beyond to ensure the necessary training and invested time in me to guarantee a successful outcome.

There was constant reassurance from the CE Scheme Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor. My self-confidence really improved- inspired by the kindness and encouragement from my colleagues at Ability West.

Progression into employment – Clerical Officer HR Dept. Ability West

During Core training I knew I wanted a career in HR, I was asked what area of HR I would like to learn more about? I said Core, and today I am in the process of being trained in Time and Attendance.

I have a degree in Social Care Practice and knew that Social Care is the area where I would thrive. I secured funding through the work place adaption grant for an adjustable desk.

I really enjoy the work involved in HR. The team recognised my willingness to learn, dedication and that I work best in a team.

6 months into the CE Scheme I was included in HR Meetings, I would give regular updates regarding on-boarding. My opinion was valued and my feedback was appreciated.
