Our Company
Ability West was founded 62 years ago, by families who wanted better support for their children.  The organisation provides a wide range of disability support services to people with complex intellectual, physical and multiple disabilities. Over 600 adults and children avail of our services. Our organisation operates more than 60 centres located across Galway City and County.

Your new role
At Ability West, no matter the position you're applying for, you'll be contributing to an organisation that makes a positive difference in the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities, as well as supporting their families and caregivers.

We currently have several open positions available:

Persons In Charge – You will have prior experience in a similar role, where you have overseen the development of person-centred programs that align with the goals and needs of the individuals we support. You will be responsible for managing and supervising staff, ensuring that professional work practices are maintained, and fostering a supportive environment where staff are developed, motivated, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Care Assistants – This role is essential in supporting the well-being of individuals in your service, helping them to build self-esteem and celebrate their uniqueness. You will work alongside the staff team to foster the development of positive interpersonal relationships throughout the service.

Social Care Workers/Team Leads – As a key worker for the individuals you support, you will play a vital role within the team and be encouraged to supervise and lead in the absence of the Person In Charge. You will have the ability to create person-centred plans that empower those you support to live their best lives.

Instructors – As an instructor in one of our Day Services, you will deliver educational and training programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities. You will design and implement activities across various areas, including arts, crafts, social skills, woodwork, cookery, horticulture, and independent living skills. Your work will ensure that each person’s support plan aligns with the New Directions initiatives. Additionally, you will participate in community activities, helping individuals integrate into the community and live their best lives.

What you'll need to succeed
You are committed to making a difference and are passionate about improving the quality of life for the individuals you support. Driven by enthusiasm, you will advocate for positive change in the disability sector. With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you can work both independently and as part of a team. You possess strong problem-solving abilities and hold a full driving licence.

Join our team and make a difference  supporting people with intellectual disabilities and their families.  We deliver the best person-centred care for the people we support.  Operating a total of 60 centres across Galway City and County.  These services are provided across a range of Day Care, Residential and Respite facilities.
