Branches
We are a grass roots organisation with local branches of Ability West located in communities throughout County Galway. The branches are voluntary fora and are a wonderful asset to this organisation. The branch members have, since the organisation’s inception, been instrumental in enabling their local communities achieve things for Ability West’s services that just would not happen without them.
Branch membership is mainly comprised of family and friends of service users, and the general public. The branches are the link to local people, businesses and communities and are vital in adhering to our ethos and vision which is to provide each person with opportunities, supports and services that will enable them to be an active and valued member within their community. The branches are also very important in that they are the link between the Board of Directors and the community.

The branches and their members help to support the organisation in many ways, including:
Advocating for and helping to raise awareness about intellectual disability and autism
Strengthening ties within our local communities by coming together for a great cause
Providing opportunities to people of all ages to be part of rewarding and fun events and social gatherings
Nominating individuals to the regional branch structure which further nominates to the Board of Directors
What would be expected?
We very much appreciate that your spare time is precious; becoming a branch member is not onerous, you can choose to be as participative as the time you can afford, be that a couple of hours a year lending your particular skills/expertise or helping at a fundraising event or a couple of hours every few months at meetings/events.
